This an unbelievable deer hunting story, but not about getting a deer. Yesterday morning I was going to hunt from my tree stand. I just got in the stand 20 feet off the ground and stepped to grab the rope to pull up my bow. However, it was dark there was nothing to step on and I rolled out of the stand. I wear a safety harness but the prussic knot did not grab. I sailed the whole 20 feet, all the way to the ground and landed on my back. As I was falling I kept waiting for the harness to grab. All I saw was the stand getting farther away. Then I hit and couldn’t believe I just fell out of my stand. After a quick parts check, I walked back to the house and went to the ER. I broke 2 ribs and that was it. My season is pretty much over, but I walked away from a fall that I should not have walked away from. I am very lucky. I still can’t believe I survived the fall. Devine intervention? I believe so. My tip: Check your safety equipment and make sure the prussic knot is holding as you climb if you use this type of safety rope! This happened so quick. Anyway, have a great Thanksgiving! I certainly am thankful that I bounce really good. Be safe and take care.
