Boomer and got out yesterday evening, man what a beautiful evening! High pressure, leaves changing, nip in the air, it finally felt like October. Had a light frost yesterday morning, first of the year, and another light one this morning. The deer were on their pegs yesterday for sure! My lil boy is growing up, even though he's only 10, this is his 4th season bow hunting and he has told me he wants to have a couple sits on his own this year. Yesterday evening I put him in a sit over an apple tree and food plot and I got in another about 200 yards away. I put him in the tree myself and made sure he was strapped in and ready to go, we had our walkie talkies, and I swear I think I bugged him to death. I checked on him every 15 minutes, just over protective I guess. Anyway, he seen 8 deer and I seen 11. 3 came to his apple tree and plot, and 6 came to mine. There were 5 deer out in the opposite corner of the old grown up farm where we have another plot and we both could see them. I had 2 small bucks, 2 does and 2 little ones in front of me and according to him he had a doe and two little ones. One of the bucks was a 2.5 year old spike with spikes about 3 inches long. Something wasn't right about that deer, every other deer in the field kept running him off. I decided to take him out if he gave me a clean shot, but didn't want to have 2 deer down on a week night. About 20 minutes before dark, I checked in with boomer and he said deer were headed his way and he was about to get a shot. I passed on the shots in hopes he would connect. He hollered back that he had shot but didn't know if he connected or not. I packed up and headed down the tree. We found his arrow, a clean miss. He said he had ranged the spot at 13 yards, I knew immediately something wasn't right as it was more like 20-22 yards. He must have bounced off of a large limb between him and where the deer was and shot low. He was pumped though, and it was a great evening in the outdoors. He and I will be back after them tomorrow morning and maybe one of us will get it done!
