Opening day wasn't a bust, but didn't loose any arrows. Man, it was just too hot. Saturday morning I had a doe come by just at shooting light, and a spike come in and bed down about 40 yards later in the morning. Saturday evening, had a doe and two little ones come in, already decided not to shoot, but she fed around long enough to eventually get my wind. She blew once and really tempted me to bust her. I actually drew and anchored the pin on her at 18 yards, and just couldn't bring myself to do it. She must have only gotten a slight whiff of me when the wind swirled once, as that was the only time she blew and they moved off shortly there after. About 15 minutes before dark, and beautiful 2.5 year old 7pt made an appearance and passed under me at 7 yards. I never took my bow off the hanger, but it was a thrill to know I won the battle of getting 4 deer within bow range. The high Saturday was 83, and I sat in the stand both morning and evening with fatigue pants and an UA heat gear shirt. Got a front moving through today and supposed to cool things off down to "normal" anyway. mid to upper 60's and lower 40's. That at least feels like October, and if it holds out for Friday and Saturday I'll be intent on putting some venison in the freezer! You guys be safe out there, certainly want everyone returning home safely to their families and be able to share your adventures here with us!
