No luck on youth day. My son decided he wanted to bow hunt Saturday morning, of course I had some bucks patterned for evening, so we stayed as far away from the area as possible to not bugger the evening hunt. We ended up getting skunked Saturday morning. Saturday evening my dad was taking Boomer to the food plot where I had several decent bucks patterned, and I was going to take my daughter. Dad and Boomer left for the woods, and my daughter decided she wanted to go to the pumpkin patch with my niece. That was cool, I've never made my kids go if they didn't want to. I enjoyed the evening riding around and glassing deer. I met dad and Boomer at dark, and Boomer was one MAD little 10 year old. For some unknown reason, dad wouldn't let him shoot. Boomer said the 8 point I sent them after came out, and dad didn't think it was. I knew this particular deer wasn't a monster, just a nice 2.5 year old, but he was on a pattern. Had shown up to this food plot 14 straight evenings, and 11 of the 14 were well within shooting light. I really don't know which deer they seen, doesn't matter, I would have let him shoot anything he wanted to shoot. I was a little disappointed in the decision, but didn't say much. First day of bow season is this Saturday and promised boomer we would be in a bow stand over that food plot Saturday evening and he can blaze away. He has taken 4 does with his bow, but hasn't gotten his first bow buck yet. Maybe Saturday will be the day!
