while he is there, have him change the seal between the transfer case and tranny. my seal failed and all the tranny fluid ran into the transfer case. this essentially drains the tranny and it will fail. you dont get the warning signs of red tranny fluid dripped on the driveway. i blew up my chevy tranny and it cost me $3400 for a new one. like you i avoid truck payments like the plague. i paid to get it fixed. the mechanic said ALL chevy 4x4's are prone to this. only way to find it early is to pull the fill plug on the case and see if fluid floods out..(plus always checking tranny fluid level) now i have a tacoma..hope all's well.
