Hey guys, hope everyone is well. Forum still seems a little slow, i still enjoy checking in here but seems everyone else, as well as I, is not posting as much. Maybe that will change and we will get back to normal. Anyway, our opener is tomorrow. Excited, I am taking my daughter tomorrow....but at the same time, lil worried that my season may not be......or pretty much KNOW it will not be a normal season. My dad has 48 acres and my wife and I 77 acres at all join together. We are looking to improve the diversity on the property so we have decided to have about 30 acres of it timbered. We plan to get a timber harvest rotation started where we harvest about 20-30 acres every 10 years or so, so that we will continuously have diversity in the habitat. However, as far as this turkey season goes, the guy that is cutting it let me know the first of this week that he is ahead of schedule and is ready to move to my property. If I dont do it now, it will be around the time of bow season this fall before he will cycle back to the area with his equipment so I turned him loose. He began cutting the skid roads Wednesday evening and should be downing trees by early next week. No doubt it is going to effect my turkey hunting. I have other ground.....and good ground for turkey, but I am not the only one who hunts these other places and bow hunting them is near impossible because of pressure. Our place is a sanctuary. I dont run and gun on our place, I leave them be and have a few blinds in strategic locations just for bow hunting them. I do not strictly bow hunt for turkeys as I really enjoy getting after them and the excitement of the running and gunning. We are allowed 3 birds, so I generally get one on the ground with the ol scatter gun before hanging it up and taking the bow. The far side of the property, which is my dads 48 should be far enough away from the commotion for the turkeys to not be disturbed....but we will just have to see. Anyway, sometimes a season must be sacrificed to ensure the quality of the habit and hunting for the future.....and I dont join the contest just to try to win. I'll be after them and will enjoy every minute of it. Yall be safe, hang with em, and best of luck to you guys!
