Jeff, Most tourney fishermen as myself rarely use a rod less than 7' in length, the only application I personally use a 6 1/2' rod is if I must skip boat docks in tight quarters. If I have room to back away I will continue to use my 7 1/2' swimjig rod. I personally carry around 12 different actions in my boat every tourney for technique specific applications. Novices are best served with a 6 1/2' rod because it is easier for them to cast/handle. But I would assume that in a custom rod business your clientele would consist of predominantly advanced anglers as well as those looking for something specific which they are unable to obtain on the market. As far as the colors, a grey or black blank needs some red in it for me, but I would be much more concerned with performance and durability than specific colors.
