I think some of you need to really read what I write instead of skimming it and filling in the blanks. Don't read between the lines because there isn't anything there. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I never said I tolerated what he did any more than I tolerate any form of illegal activity. I just know that the only way to get someone like him to change is to understand why they do it and work from there. I've worked with low-income kids for many years. I've seen them get scholarships, graduate from college, and still end up in prison because the one thing they didn't learn was how to leave the hood behind. They just take it to a new level be it dog-fighting, cock-fighting or drug dealing (3 things we see a lot of in the Detroit area). You can hate the sin, but still love the sinner. On the other hand, if he doesn't learn and doesn't truly change, I'll be leading the parade to hand him his head on a platter because, by that point, he would have made a conscious decision NOT to change.[/quote:2wboepsl] I have read your post carefully and I hear what your saying but my piont is, why do we need to change or understand "people" like this?I just want him punished. I dont care about him nor does he care about me ( or you ) Waste your compassion on him if want to , theres others that deserve mine more
[/quote:2wboepsl] The diffence in your two viewpoints is simple. You believe that rehabilitation is not possilbe and you are intersted in punishment for wrong acts. Ava believes that people can grow and change but you need to understand them from their viewpoint if you are going to assist them. For her, rehabilitation is possilbe. You appear to place value on those around you while Ava appears to be more charitable to those that she does not know. Compasion for few or Compasion for all. WWJD? Both viewpoints are valid by the way. I happen to like Ava's more, but that's my opinion. Read my tag line! Oh yeah, in case you are wondering, I think Vic is a dirt bag and should get the book thrown at him. I don't really care if he ever plays again. He was a tremendous athlete which means that... he's a good football player. It does not equate to other things. All talents are not transitive. It is nice when good athletes can be good role models for others. It doesn't always work that way. I very seldom assume it is the case without credible evidence that is more that "reading books to kids" one day a year because it is a clause in your contract. I hope he does learn from this and becomes a better human being. Odds are I'll never have a chance to find out as I don't run in the same circles he does.
