Pro Staff: Steve Scott

Steve Scott got started in archery after his friend convinced him to go bow hunting.  This led to indoor dots and eventually 3D and competition.  Steve shoots the Apex 7, Conquest 4, and Monster 7.0, and competes in the Senior Pro division.

Randy Ulmer, Laurie Watson, and Jeff Hopkins have had the biggest impact on him as a shooter.  With their help, he’s enjoyed a long career as both an Amateur and Pro archer.  His favorite memory during his career was winning his first tournament in the Sr. Pro division at Augusta, GA.

Here are some of his most recent archery accomplishments:

  • 2010 – Augusta, GA – 1st Senior Pro
  • 2010 – Metropolis, IL – 5th Senior Pro
  • 2010 – Shooter of the Year – top 14
  • 2010&2011 – MAA & MBA in MS – Shooter of the Year
  • 2011 – Augusta, GA – 2nd Senior Pro

“I enjoy the competition in the tournaments,” says Steve. “The shoot-down is my favorite because of the pressure you feel when you’re in it.  To any new archers getting your start, make sure your equipment fits you, but then practice.  Practice shooting and judging yardage on a regular basis, and this includes in different weather conditions.  Some tournaments will have rain and wind, and will be extremely cold.  You need to know how your equipment will be effected when the weather changes.  But above all…don’t forget to have fun!”

When he’s not shooting, he’s hunting white-tail deer, spending time with friends and family, and helping out with kids shoots in his state of MS.

Steve Scott’s personal testimony regarding Mathews bows and Zebra strings:

“Mathews?  Finest bow I ever put in my hands.  And Zebra strings are good quality and have good peep sight alignment!”
