Whether it’s shooting white-tail deer or striking the bullseye on a target, you’ll find Sonya Wright with the same weapon, the Monster.
It all started when Sonya and her husband went with a friend to a tournament. Sonya decided to try her hand at competition and has since become a professional shooter. She says that her husband has made the biggest impact on her, always supporting her and keeping her focused on practicing for tournaments.
Many professional archers agree that the best part of the competition is the camaraderie, and Sonya is no exception. “You meet many new people,” says Sonya, “and many of those people become close friends. We have an archery family.”
Her husband and she also shoot at local tournaments every weekend. They’re excited because they’ve had several people move from local tournaments to trying their hands at the national level. “Don’t give up,” she says. “It takes time and practice. It doesn’t happen overnight. Just keep practicing!”
Some of her most recent accomplishments include:
- 2011 – ASA Pro Am West – 4th
- 2011 – ASA Illinois Pro Am – 3rd
- 2010 – ASA Augusta Pro Am – 4th
- 2010 – ASA Louisiana Classic Championship – 2nd
- 2009 – ASA Illinois Pro/Am – 3rd
- 2008 – ASA Women’s Open Shooter of the Year
When not competing, Sonya likes to hunt white tail deer.
