Pro Staff: Sharon Carpenter

When Sharon moved to Florida, she found out about 3-D archery in 2003.  She did some local shoots and then finally participated in an ASA shoot in Gainesville.  She was hooked! She now competes in the Women’s Pro division with her Helim, and here are some of her recent accomplishments:

  • 2003 – Womens Bowhunter Classic – 1st
  • 2009 – 5 out of 7 ASA shootdowns in Women’s Pro.
  • 2009 – Shooter of the Year. – 5th
  • 2010 – ASA Gainesville,Fl. – 3rd
  • 2010 – ASA in Paris,Tx. – 1st
  • 2010 – ASA Texas Pro AM – 1st
  • 2011 – Kentucky Pro AM – 3rd
  • 2012 – Shooter of the Year (Women’s Pro) – 4th
  • 2012 – Paris Texas Pro Am – 1st
  • 2012 – West Monroe La Pro Am – 2nd
  • 2012 – Newberry Pro Am – 5th

She says her mother has been the biggest influence on her archery career.  “If it wasn’t for her support, I wouldn’t be shooting 3D archery today.”

Her favorite part of competition is “the rush of guessing the yardage and making a good shot.  Plus, meeting so many new and interesting people is great!”

Sharon loves to help young archers, but she runs her own horse-farm and that takes up a lot of her time. “It’s hard for me to get away sometimes,” says Sharon.  “If there are clinics around me, I try to make it to them.  There are quite a few kids at the local shoots and I work with them if they like.  I enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces!” She now has a small archery range at her farm and is planning on working with kids with their form, and showing them the fun in shooting archery.

To any new archers, her advice is to enjoy yourself but work hard.  “You’ve got to practice to be at the top of your game.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  And have lots and lots of fun while you’re at it!”

When not competing or working on her horse-farm, she loves boating, fishing, and riding horses.  “One of the things I have recently gotten into is scuba diving.  My boyfriend introduced me to it and I love it!”

Sharon’s favorite memory from her archery career was winning the ASA Texas Pro AM.  “It was my first win and the wind was blowing 40 mph!  Thought for sure I wasn’t going to hold up but I pulled it off!  It was such a great feeling.”

Sharon Carpenter’s personal testimony regarding Mathews bows and Zebra strings:

“Shooting a Mathews bow was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I shoot the Z7 series and it’s the smoothest bow I have ever shot!  Never have I had a problem with any Mathews bow.  They are definitely top of the line!  Zebra bowstrings are great.  I’ve never had a problem with these strings.  Out of all the strings I have used, not one has stretched on me.”
