Randall Jones has been shooting a bow for most of his life. He started pursuing it seriously around the age of 30 when he lived close to a range. He then met some friends in the club and has been hooked ever since then. He competes in the Senior Pro division and shoots a Triumph and a Z7.
Randall credits Tim Strickland as being the most important influence on his archery career. “I met Tim Strickland about 25 years ago,” says Randall, “and he told me I had a talent for archery and could shoot with anyone in the world if I applied myself.” And so he did apply himself, and he has shot against the best in the world!
“I try to arrive at a tournament a day early to practice my distance judging and the local terrain in order to be ready for the tournament. Having a traveling buddy helps a lot during practice, and of course in covering expenses!”
Here are some of his recent accomplishments:
- 2010 – ASA Class – 3rd (Senior Pro)
- 2010 – IBO Senior Pro Team- 1st
- 2011 – ASA Florida Pro AM – 2nd
- 2011 – IBO Southern Triple Crown Alabama – 1st
- 2011 – Ranked 5th in ASA and IBO Shooter of the Year
“I enjoy the ASA format,” he continues. “Everyone is in close quarters and we all have become very good friends. I also enjoy working with the kids. They’re archery’s future!” He attends many local shoots and works with the kids at the ASA events. He also enjoys the Pro Ams.
To any new archers, Randall says, “Don’t expect to become great overnight, it takes time. But always have fun!”
His favorite memory of his archery career was winning the ASA Classic, IBO World, and ASA Shooter of the Year in the same year.
In his spare time when he’s not attending shoots, he loves RV-ing with his wife, doing landscaping, and playing golf.
Randall Jones’ personal testimony regarding Mathews bows and Zebra strings:
“The bows are built very solidly and are dependable. They are very easy to tune and smooth to draw. Zebra strings are absolutely the best bow string on the market. Zero stretch and tough as nails! There’s nothing else that I use.”
