Darrin Christenberry has been enjoying archery for 20 years. He has competed as a pro since 2002, when he had finally accumulated enough vacation and personal time from his job to allow him to make it to all of the tournaments he wanted to. “You only get one chance at Rookie of the Year and that was one of my goals!” said Darrin.
He now competes in the Men’s Open Pro class. His bow of choice for competition is the Conquest Apex 8 and his bow of choice when hunting is the Z7 Xtreme.
Some of his most recent accomplishments include:
- 2010 – NAA Nationals – 2nd
- 2010 – US Open – 3rd
- 2010 – IBO Nelsonville – 3rd
- 2009 – ASA Mississippi – 1st
- 2009 – ASA Kentucky – 1st
- 2009/10 – IBO National Triple Crown Team – Champions
Darrin describes his most memorable archery moment as, “The final arrow at the end of regular competition at the 2006 ASA Classic. The race with Jeff Hopkins for shooter of the year had come down to me just needing a 10 on the final target. Once I was at full draw, I realized, “I can 12 this thing,” and I did. Little did I know, that 12 would be what got me into the final shootdown later that night. Without it, I would not have won the Classic too!”
When Darrin is not competing, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing softball, basketball and golf.
The advice that Darrin gives to new archers is put yourself among the toughest competition you can find. “Exposing yourself to tough competition and shooting under pressure as often as you can will prepare you for ‘The Moment of Truth’ when your trying to obtain your goals!”
Darrin credits Mathews, Inc. as having made the biggest impact on his archery career. “Without the support of Mathews and all the pro-staff, I wouldn’t be able to pursue my goals like I have. Biggest role model is Jeff Hopkins! Hes a great friend and a great archer!”
