Curtis Beverly purchased a hunting bow at the urging of a friend who bow-hunted. “I started hunting with him and was hooked,” Curtis says. Later, he found out about competitive archery and tried that. He’s never stopped since.
Curtis says that, “Frank Gandy, a former National Champion and the most professional of archers, has had the biggest influence on my archer career.”
Curtis competes in the Senior Pro division and shoots the Monster 7.0, and the eZ7. Here are some of his recent accomplishments:
- 2010 – 5th place ASA Pro Am Gainesville FL – Best finish in years
- 2010 – Coached NASP National Champions in High School and Elementary School divisions
Curtis says that in the past, the thrill of the competition was what kept him coming back for more. However, now that he’s older, seeing old friends and meeting new ones is what he really enjoys the most about the sport.
Curtis coaches NASP Kids Advanced Archery Skills all over the southeastern United States. He also works with 4-H groups and loves hunting, fishing, and working with kids in recreational sports.
To any new archers just starting out, he says to find someone that knows what they are doing and then ask them to help you get started the right way.
Curtis Beverly’s personal testimony regarding Mathews bows and Zebra strings:
“I have found Mathews bows to be the most dependable and consistent bow I have ever shot. Their tolerances are exact. They perform the same day in and day out. I wouldn’t shoot anything but a Zebra bowstring. They have very little stretch. After just a few shots, my peep never rotates! I also believe that they will outlast any bowstring on the market.”
