Chris competes in the Open Pro Male Freestyle Division. He shoots a Triumph, Conquest 4, and Apex 8.
Aside from being a Pro-Shooter, Chris is also a theatrical lighting designer and has worked on the last 3 super bowls. He’s also designed lights for Jay Leno, George Carlin, Busta Rhymes, and many more celebrity entertainers. So, how did Chris get interested in archery?
“By pure coincidence, I parked near the local field archery course in downtown San Diego. I struck up a conversation with an archer who was shooting at the time and bought my first bow later that same day!”
Since then, it’s become not only a hobby but also a profession. His wife Nicole has been there to support him all the way, as has Mathews Inc. Chris says, “I thank them both for their support in pursuing this endeavor!”
Some of his accomplishments include:
- 2003 – California State Indoor Champion
- 2003 – NFAA SW Sectional – 3rd Place
- 2004 – NFAA SW Sectional – 2nd Place
- 2 time California State Games Champion
- 2005 – WAF Archery Classic (Pittsburgh) – 11th Place
- 2010 Las Vegas shoot – 900 total score – 5th place
- 2010 Shooting 3 STAR FITA 1400’s back to back to back – 1402, 1407, 1405
- 2011 Las Vegas shoot – 899 total score
His favorite part of the whole archery experience has just been competing against other archers. He participates in local archery leagues and helps out at a local pro-shop. To any new archers, his advice to you is that “to become proficient at archery, it takes time and patience. Don’t be afraid to try something new, but don’t fall into the rut of having to have the ‘latest and greatest’. Shoot and use what works with your shooting style.”
His greatest memory in his career has been shooting a 900 in Vegas in 2010 and participating in that year’s shoot-off.
Chris Oosterlinck’s personal testimony regarding Mathews bows and Zebra strings:
“Mathews bows are the best bows I have ever shot! I’ve shot other bows, but all of my tournament wins and state and national records have been shot with a Mathews bow. I shoot what I know works for me. Barracuda bowstrings are stock on all of my Mathews bows and I have never found any need to switch to a different brand.”
