Who Says Women Need Help to Hunt?
My husband was deployed to Iraq and was scheduled to be home after season opened. I had never spent time in the woods or shot any weapon, gun or bow, ever. My husband is an avid bowhunter and had me and his sister out hanging stands and putting up trail cameras so he would be ready once he returned. I went to a stand that was already set up, scared to go up, I stood at the bottom trying to work up the courage for the climb and off in the distance I heard something moving towards me. Using this as motivation, I quickly made it up to the seat and once I was seated a doe and 2 fawns came out and were under the stand for about 45 minutes. After that I wanted to hunt with him and when I told him the story he told me to get a bow and we could shoot together. I went to a Mathews dealer to order him a new bow and picked up a Mission Craze that was pink everything for myself. The dealer helped me set it up and got me shooting so I could spend time with my husband and be included in his passion for bowhunting. I started with a 20lb draw weight but by the time he was home I was up to 40lbs. And on my fourth trip out to a blind I had a doe step out in front of me at 7 yards! I drew my bow and steadied the pin and took the shot. She only ran about 10 yards and that was that. I have been hooked since!
