The Kudu Of My Dreams…

July 27, 2004 by Javier Ayala

Just 15 minutes before dark, after being just a few hours in the blind, I heard a noise of breaking branches. Suddenly, a huge Kudu bull appeared in my sight and I could see his magnificent spiral horns shining against the last rays of light.
My heart started pumping 1000 times per minute and I could barely breath. So many days spending countless hours sitting inside the blind waiting for this moment and now there he was, just 25 yards away.
I came to full draw of my new Outback 70# bow and waited for him to give me a broad-side shot, when he did so, I sent an arrow directly to his lungs. The arrow hit true and went through the Kudu completely, hitting a tree in the other side.
I couldn´t believe my eyes, I was seeing the Kudu of my dreams lying dead in the ground less than 30 yards from where I shot him. It has been a perfect shot!
The Kudu´s horns were 55 inches long with heavy bases and it was a very old bull. Truly the trophy of a lifetime and my first trophy with a bow ever. Thank you Mathews.
