The 42 Yard Ten

November 7, 2012 by Marty Furseth

Well it was an afternoon hunt, I had gotten into my stand around 230 pm in hopes of at least seeing a shooter buck chasing does. I didn’t see one deer until about a half hour left of shooting time. I first heard the does crashing through the small 2 acre patch of woods I hunt coming to me from the right. I remember thinking to myself “man i hope a buck is on her tail.” Sure enough there he was 2 minutes behind her. He followed her out into the standing soy beans and began to feed. At this point they were about 80 yards to my right. The doe fed further to the right and he began to follow. I made 3 soft grunts and he spun directly around towards me and followed a row of beans my way. I drew back and waited for a window to shoot. Once he got into the clear i stopped him with a soft mouth grunt and touched off the release. SMACK i drilled him hard he ran about 40-50 yards and did a front flip and was done! I couldn’t believe it no track job for him. Called up some buddies and we ranged the shot at 42 yards. My arrow went right through BOTH front shoulders destroying his vitals. He didn’t know what hit him! I love my Mathews! Top of the line product!
