Monster Public-Land Buck

February 4, 2013 by tao her

It’€™s 10am on a Saturday. It’€™s still cold and the squirrels are still out on this hazy morning. I hear some leaves rustling behind me and thought it was just them squirrels again. Then as I lifted my tired eyes over my right shoulder, I see a big body buck slowly making its way up threw a steep incline, coming up at 40 yards and closing in. He doesn’€™t smell me, because of my scent control clothing, but still stops to sniff the air for that ever faint scent of man. He makes a 30 yard radius walk around me from right to left and slowly walks into my shooting lanes. I had but only a small 3’ shot area between two trees. As he slowly walks into the lane, he gave me a perfect broadside shot at 28 yards. My Z7 Xtreme was perfect. It released my arrow with silent, deadly, and perfect accuracy. I can see the arrow hit dead center behind his left shoulder blade.

He jumps to his right and clears the small saplings and thickets with ease. I watched it leap out of sight and wondered if in fact, I was able to do what I have been practicing all year. One shot, one kill. As I reflect on this perfect moment that the Lord had given me, I was glad I didn’€™t fail my Mathews Z7 Xtreme.
