Shoot Type: Elk
Mathews Bags My Biggest Yet
Heading 3.5miles back into my elk area, in the early season. It rained almost every single day, but on this day it didnt matter. I came upon a cow in the trail 40yards, broadside wind coming in my face, I froze before the cow saw me. She looked up, and I waited till she started to feed again.
All of a sudden from down the hill I heard a bugle about 70yards, so I clipped onto my Mathews Ultra, the cow looked back up at me, the wind is still blowing in my face.
All of a sudden a LOUD bugle from up the hill about 50yards away. My heart was pumping, all of sudden the cow starts walking down the hill. Then I heard the bull that was up the hill start coming down the hill right at me then all I saw was horns everywhere.
He stopped quarting to me at 15yards. I placed a perfect shot right behind the shoulder. I cow called as the bull trotted in front of me, it calmed him down. He went about 60 yards and I heard one big crash and that was all.
As I made my way towards where I heard the crash I saw the horns of the bull. He wasnt moving so at that point I counted the horns and pinched myself. Before my eyes was this massive 7×7 bull elk.
The bull scores 360gross. Havent had a chance to get him officially scored yet.
