Last Chance

April 11, 2012 by shane oldenburger

Being an avid bow hunter since the age of sixteen, it all came to a stand still in 2008 when our small town was hit by a devastating EF5 tornado. Working on the house trying to get things put back together consumed most of my free time. In 2011 I decided to get back after it, so I purchased a Mathews DXT! This bow was absolutely amazing compared to what I was use to.
I set up some trail cameras on a farm I have permission to hunt and had some great photos of some nice deer. My first three day hunt I didn’t see any of the bucks that I considered shooters. A week later I made another three day trip, it was around 4PM on the last day of my hunt and there was not going to be another chance for me to get out. I watched a few does walk under my tree to the east. About half an hour later I heard something behind me and watched a doe bust out of the timber then I seen a flash of his antlers. The doe ran right towards my tree and he was right on her heels, I grunted three times to try to get him to stop. I finally gave one last loud grunt, he froze in his tracks and I released the arrow from the DXT and the arrow hit its mark on the 146 inch buck he ran about 15 yards stopped and looked back and fell dead right there. I will never shoot anything but Mathews again! This is my Mathews Moment!
