Gila Wilderness ELK

September 7, 2010 by Rick Curley

I’ve been shooting Mathews for the last 5 or 6 years and this year bought the new Z7. It’s like an upgraded version of my Switchback XT. We’ve been trying to draw a tag in the Gila Wilderness for the last 5 years. This was a horseback 10 day wilderness hunt and the most challenging hunt I’ve been on to date. On day 2, my horse threw me while returning to camp down the side of a canyon. MY foot got stuck in the stirrup and he drug me 40 feet straight down. I managed to free my foot and all I could think of as the horse bounced down the mountain was, I hope he doesn’t break my bow. Well, he did break one of the string stop brackets and knock the sight off a little but the bow still shot like the day I bought it. On day Seven of the hunt I harvested this 360 class 6×6. Thanks Mathews
