First Turkey with a Bow

May 4, 2006 by Stan Burris Jr.

Went out turkey hunting Thursday morning and didnt have any luck, so about 11:30 decided to head back to work. I packed my things and was heading back to the vehicle, and spotted a lone Tom, so I headed back into the woods without my blind. I spent about 20 minutes cutting a shooting lane. I got everything set up, and hit the slate call. He was about 300 yards away, and he hammered back at me. It took about 15 minutes for him to come across the ridge and down the side of the hill. He was in full strut about 12 yards away as he crossed through my shooting lane. I put the pin right on his head, and let it fly. My mechanical Grim Reaper broadhead stopped him dead in his tracks. He weighed 27 lbs. with a 11.5" beard. The only way to turkey hunt for me from now on is with my Mathews Switchback !!!
