Shoot Type: Elk
First archery elk with my new Z7
My 2 year wait to finally do a mid September rut hunt in southwest New Mexico had finally come. The area was still experiencing serious summer heat with minimal to no rain. The bulls were doing very little bugling in the early mornings but the action would intensify by early evening. My guide had found a water hole about 2 miles from the road and recommended that we hike in and hunt it every night. On the second night this 6×6 came in an offered me a 35 yard shot. My Z7 performed flawlessly sending an Easton FMJ tipped with a 4 blade Grizz Trick which enabled me to take my first elk with a bow and my first animal ever with my new Z7. He scored 323 P&Y.
