First African Safari

June 10, 2013 by Dasha Campagna

This trip was my first safari in Africa (my husband Jeff went on another one in South Africa couple of years before that). We were in Zimbabwe with out PH Butch Coaton for 12 days and I absolutely fell in love with the whole experience. Our camp and it’s staff were amazing, the weather was perfect and the hunt itself was the most exciting one ever for me. Every day was filled with adventure and adrenaline. Between the two of us, we got 8 animals total (1 with a gun – cape buffalo, and 7 with our bows – an impala, two kudu, two worthogs and two zebra). My zebra was taken on the very last day of our hunt and, literally, at the very last hour of it, as we were getting ready to fold up for the day. The zebra came to 35 yards from me and presented a great broad-sided shot. I released my arrow and made a perfect shot. This was the absolute best ending of our safari. I cannot wait to go back!
