Easy as 1,2,3……Well Not Really!

November 12, 2004 by Dale Brassfield

Once again, November found in one of my favorite trees, this time the only thing different was the bow in my hand and the weather conditions.

You guys amaze me each year. Last year, I thought I had the best bow ever built, which was an LX. This year I bought the best bow ever built and it is an Outback.

I shot an upper 130s buck from the same tree last year. This year I was hunting the rut in November. This time, the weather was hot, the wind was blowing unpredictably and the big bucks were just not coming out until well after dark.

Persistance paid off, as I had sat in my tree stand ALL day long for 3 days straight and a hot doe towed this buck to within 20 yards of my tree stand. I was able to get to full draw undetected, made a perfect quartering away shot with my Outback that clipped the top of the liver, took out a lung and blew thru his heart. The buck ran 40 yards and fell within 5 feet of last years buck.

This deer was 4 1/2 years old, weighed 185 lbs, had eight points and scored 138 5/8" gross.

Thank you for building such an efficient hunting machine!
