Coyote at Long Range

May 9, 2012 by Kody Wilson

My father and I were out scouting some new hunting land west of town. Just before we started looking around I told him im bringing my bow because that’s always when you wish you have it. My dad went one way to look through a patch of woods and I went the other to walk along a corn field. We weren’t 50 yards from the truck when I saw a coyote heading towards the corner of the corn, which was 10 yards in front of me. Instantly I crouched down, knocked an arrow, and waited. All of the sudden it was there and gone before I could draw back. I then rushed to the corner of the field and saw it going straight away from me. I then set my sight for 75 yards and drew back. After I gave a little squeak with my lips, he stopped, and I released the arrow. The arrow connected and was instantly lethal. I ranged it after it was dead and it ended up being 76 yards. This was my first kill with Mathews Monster XLR8 and my most impressive so far. This never would have happened with any other bow.
