Connecticut 10 Pointer
My brother and I located what we call “Whitetail Highway 1″ which runs across a friend’s property. We set up several ground blinds at strategic points along with game cameras. Weeks of photos showed that the trail was being used by does and small bucks. This was fine with us as our focus was venison in the freezer. We’d both taken a week off to hunt this property and hit the woods early on Monday morning. Thursday afternoon, along came this 10 pointer who had never shown up on the game cameras. I watched his cautious approach, in the company of a large doe for a tense 20 minutes. Finally at a range of 23 yards, he presented an open broadside shot. The doe had moved behind a large boulder, and he put his head down. I drew and made a well placed double lung shot on him. He was down in seconds!
This guy is by far the nicest buck I’ve ever had the privilege of taking with my Mathews! What a thrill!
