Shoot Type: Mule Deer
Bad News Buck
Our hunt started with vehicle troubles which made us arrive at camp in the early morning hours. We had a few hours of sleep and then headed out, looking for elk. After several failed setups, we spotted this buck bedded in an open meadow. I slipped around to his escape route and waited. My hunting partner’s stalk failed and the deer started in my direction. My range finder read 58 yards, so I put my 60 yard pin on him and squeezed. The buck ran about 150 yards before expiring and the photo session began. We boned him out and packed back to camp. On the trip home, the rear wheel came off our truck while driving down the interstate. It rolled a half mile down the road before coming to a stop. I was able to bring the truck safely to the side of the road but we had to wait for a tow truck to get us home. That buck was heavier than I thought!
