Got a chance to be invited to a ranch down near Tilden Texas. This old 9 point had established the back of the 5,000 acre farm as his home range. Now all that was left was to locate him and close the distance. After we noticed him on a few trail cam pics at a feeder, the set up was made. I walked in with a drag rag, doe scent on it. 45 minutes into the set, a small but arrived at the feeder. I watched him for about 2 minutes, then heard a loud snort wheeze from the road coming to the feeder. Mr. 9 Point was following my drag rag right to the set up, and wasn’t having any of the smaller bucks presence. He came in all puffed up, and mean looking. Needless to say, it didn’t take much to scare off the smaller buck. I was worried that he might follow the smaller buck away from my shooting lanes, but after the smaller buck disapeared, Mr. 9 Point turned right around and followed the scent drag trail right to my set up. Made the shot at 25 yards, he ran 55 yards and realized his heart was broken. Quick recovery and great memories.
