7×7 Bull Elk

January 24, 2011 by Kevin Fiscus

Purchased my new Mathews Z7 in August and spent a lot of hours sighting in. On the last day of the season I saw a bull feeding on a sidehill and began my stalk. When I got to where I thought he was, I couldn’t locate him. So I set up in the bottom of the draw and cow called. Immediately I had three different bulls bugle back. This bull was upwind in the draw and was definitely coming in to the call. I set up and ranged a tree in front of me at 35 yards. The bull came around the corner and stopped next to the tree, turned broadside and started rubbing the tree. I re-ranged him at 37 yards and took the shot. He walked across the draw and laid down about 60 yards from me.
This was my first bull taken with a bow. The Mathews Z7 is an awesome bow!
