3rd days a charm
Started my hunt Friday morning seeing this guy after only 15 minutes in the stand and then yet again another hour later. After not seeing anything else I got down to scout a new location near by. I found a line of scrapes and rubs farther into the timber where I relocated my stand. The area I was hunting required a doe harvest before harvesting a buck. Friday evening I was able to harvest a doe in my new location but no sign of the buck I was after. Saturday morning rolls around and I’m back in the same stand from the evening before. I had 2 close encounters with smaller bucks and seen this guy once again just out of range. After the morning hunt I once again move my stand to a different tree trying to zero in on this buck. Saturday afternoon rolls around and much of the same, a few does and some smaller bucks. Sunday morning I climb back to into the tree again hoping I’m finally in the right spot. First light I have a smaller buck walk by within 20 yards. A few minutes later I had a turkey feeding behind me. I watch until she is out of sight and when I turn back around there he is…standing 8 yards in front of me in brush pile. I grab my trusty Z7 and wait. After only a few seconds but seems like hours he steps out and presented me with a perfect 17 yard shot and the rest is history! He’s an 11 point that scored 162″ and field dressed 196 lbs. This is why I shoot a Mathews!
