18 years later…

I finally had enough patience to start bowhunting again. The last experience I had was as a 23 year old sergeant in the Air Force in Knob Noster, Missouri. After six sightings of a good 10-point without a shot, I hung the bow up and later sold it. After many years of successful gunhunting, then muzzleload hunting, I had the urge to give bowhunting another try. At the age of 42, on opening morning of the 2003 archery season in Tennessee, I got my first shot attempt. This nice 8-point with a 16-1/2" spread showed himself at 22 yards. He caught me out of position, but he took a quick glance down toward the bottoms which allowed me to get my bow from the bowholder. When he dropped his head to browse, that is when I came to full draw. A double-lung shot with my Mathews FX lead to a 60 yard recovery. I also took a doe and a coyote with this bow. I have to say that this bow shoots circles around the one I started with 18 years ago. I had no idea that bowhunting could be so much fun.
