Ellison Wins Gold at AZ Cup

The Arizona Cup was held April 8 - 12 in Phoenix Arizona.  The archers compete in a ranking round to determine the seeds and then they compete head to head in the elimination rounds.  When the final rounds were complete Brandy Ellison won the gold medal in the Men's Recurve class.

Brady Ellison has made a tremendous transition from competing with a compound to recurve.  Ellison made the US Olympic team for the last Olympics and he is continuing to show that this was no fluke.  At the Arizona cup, Ellison turned in a score of 1328 and was ranked number 1 entering the elimination matches.    Fellow Mathews Recurve shooter Vic Wunderle was ranked third with a score of 1305.  Both Ellison and Wunderle marched through the elimination rounds and made it to the medal rounds.  In the gold medal match, Ellison turned in a dominating performance and won the gold medal.  The final score in the gold medal match was 116-103.  Wunderle won the bronze medal with a score of 111-110.
