Core Values
Located in Sparta, Wisconsin, Mathews, Inc. currently employs a staff of over 300 people and operates three local facilities to a diverse line of archery equipment, bow components and accessories for authorized retailers all over the world. Our success is predicated on our commitment to three steadfast core values: innovation, integrity and impact.
Integrity – Our desire is that our actions and decisions reflect honesty, trustworthiness, respect, loyalty and accountability.
Innovation – We strive to achieve the extraordinary through the continuous improvement of people, process and product.
Impact – Our goal is to make positive, lasting impressions by caring for individuals, families and communities.
These core values shape our daily decisions and actions. They are the basis for personal accountability and for points of celebration throughout our company. Matt McPherson has stated, “nothing else is more important to me than that our company and employees live out our core values on a daily basis.” Our employees are committed to exhibiting these core values in all aspects of their daily work and management is committed to supporting their personal and professional growth as they do so.

Innovation: “Catch us if you can”
Matt McPherson started making recurve and compound bows in the early 70’s. Many designs and years later, Matt decided to take one of his newest innovations; the Inner Cam (patented 1985), and started McPherson Archery. The company was sold in 1989 and in 1992 Mathews, Inc. was born.
In addition to a lifelong passion for the sport and boundless energy, Matt had one major advantage: an invention that would revolutionize the archery industry. His design for single cam technology; the SOLOCAM®, made Mathews bows lighter, faster, quieter and powerfully accurate. Today, McPherson is owner and CEO of the largest grossing bow manufacturer in the world.
In addition to his role as CEO, McPherson leads the research and development team and has produced nearly 90 patented (and patent pending) innovations including the Harmonic Damping System™, Zebra® ZS Twist Bowstrings and the V-lock Zero Tolerance Limb Cup System. His passionate pursuit of creative distinction and high-performance engineering inspired the company slogan, “Catch us if you can.”
Integrity: People first, business second
Another unique characteristic central to Mathews’ success is our commitment to integrity. Matt McPherson’s basic, yet pervasive, philosophy of “people before business” serves as an important guide for how we conduct internal and external business.
Externally, our Authorized Mathews Retailers is the primary example of our business integrity. We carefully select knowledgeable, service-oriented retailers and have rejected marketplace pressures to provide product to large retail chain stores. By remaining loyal to our small business partners we maintain quality control through all phases of our product cycle.
Internally, putting people first has cultivated a positive working environment in which the staff is respectful, accountable and helpful toward each other. These attitudes have an overwhelming impact on job satisfaction which leads to low turnover, increased productivity and outstanding customer service.
From producing 100% American-made bows with a lifetime warranty to providing unsurpassed customer service, Mathews proves that a manufacturer can dominate an industry while maintaining the highest level of integrity.
Impact: Lasting impressions
Making a positive impact on coworkers, customers and community is an important continuation in our commitment to integrity. Mathews goes beyond expectations to show appreciation for its employees.
On the local level, we are strong supporters of organizations like the Boy Scouts and the Boys & Girls Club. This spring, we began holding semi-annual blood drives at our facility and maintain a high level of participation.
Mathews makes its biggest impact as the driving force behind the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Designed to engage students by teaching them the lifelong skill of archery, NASP has now reached 3.2 million students in the United States and abroad, building self-confidence, determination and camaraderie among a diverse group of children. Mathews has donated millions of dollars to the program since its inception.
By refusing to settle for the status quo, Mathews continues to set the standards in the archery world. Our commitment to excellence in every aspect of our business proves that even in today’s modern economy, a manufacturer doesn’t have to sacrifice quality or integrity to dominate its industry and have a positive impact on its customers.
