I’m surprised there is no info from the Mathews’ Dealer show about the new Zebra Trophy Strings. The Zebra Trophy strings now replace the Mathews Genuine strings. Both the Zebra Trophy strings and Hybrid strings are now guaranteed to virtually eliminate peep rotation and serving separation, although I can’t find on the website what the warranty terms/period is.
Also the Zebra Strings website is back up. Check it out … I don’t believe there is an upcharge for custom string colors. Thanks – I saw this on FB and forgot to look at it closer. I’m hoping this is what is on the new bows or custom order for string and cables when you order a bow.The Mission bows come with the Zebra Hybrid strings, and the Mathews bows came with the Mathews Genuine strings, so most likely they’d now have the Trophy strings, but good question.
All I can find online is the standard press release on the Zebra Trophy strings, which doesn’t give any details on how the Trophy strings differ from the Hybrid strings … presumably the Trophy series uses the latest BCY fiber blend, like the 17% Vectran X-string ?????
I just built a 2-cam string and cables set for my old Browning 6T6 Heat out of Brownell Astro-Flight (100% HMPE). With BCY 452x, 35% Vectran blend, the bow sounded like a .30-.30 going off, but with the Astro-Flight the shot is much softer and only sounds like a .22, even after I raised the limb pivots to increase preloading and strung the bow to 80# peak DW instead of the original 70# … but shooting at about 73#. I didn’t gain any speed, which just about every string manufacturer claims but never seems to work out, but the shootability is much better.
I haven’t had a chance to try the new BCY X-fiber, but considering the 8190x material made my Monster much less ‘twangy’, I’m interested in how the Zebra Trophy strings compare. I might just put the Zebra Trophy strings on the Z7 Mag instead of the Winners Choice … first, I’m waiting on Zebra Strings to respond to my question about warranty.

Joined: 5/7/2008Anybody know if/when we’ll be able to get a replacement Zebra Trophy String for an older bow, or will replacements for older models just be the Mathews Genuine Strings? You can order the Trophy strings from your Mathews dealer now … use the String Builder to select your colors and serving color.

Joined: 2/3/2007I’m reading some great reviews from string makers over on AT who are using the new BCY X. I’ll be interested to learn more about the Zebra Trophy strings.I talked with Zebra Strings:
- The BCY material used is not BCY X. Zebra Strings explained the BCY X material is very new and they have not done enough testing to be assured of its performance.
- The Trophy and Hybrid strings use the same BCY material.
- The difference between the Trophy and Hybrid string is the string making process. The Trophy strings use a much more labor intensive, proprietary layup and better in process QC then the Hybrid strings.
- The Trophy Strings come on all new Mathews Bows. The Mission line uses the Hybrid strings.
- Zebra Strings’ policy on Trophy Strings is similar to Mathews’ Customer Service policy, in that Zebra Strings intends to provide customer satisfaction as long as wear and tear is reasonable, and the product doesn’t show abuse, etc. There is no stated warranty period. If there is a problem, you can take the string to your Mathews Dealer or Contact Zebra Strings direct.
