It certainly isnt the same without the regulars that were always here day in and day out! I still check in quite often just because I have learned so much here over the years that its hard to let go. But not only was it a good place to learn and exchange stories, it was also great for a laugh and a quick pick me up more times than not! I certainly do also miss the antics of Big Al and Neil

    Yes sir!  Those guys could sure crack you up in a hurry.  I guess I can always text them, but it was sure fun to see them share their thoughts and jokes on here. {#emotions_dlg.mathews_crying}

At least we still have a few characters left on here.

    it’s slow because, imho

    1.  no classifieds or selling.  dumbest thing ever.  ever.

    2.  locked threads.  how about a flame room where the heated topics can take their course.  they’re fun to watch, fun to participate in, and attract viewers.  testosterone is not a bad thing.  even if you shoot elk at 80 yards with mechanicals.

    3.  the old skin was simple.  the new one is slower and a harsh white color.  really hard to look at.

    4.  the forum needs more nitch topics.  like state threads, mule deer threads, elk threads, fishing threads, photography threads, etc.   more chapters.

    5.  don’t know how else to say it, but the camraderie has packed up and left.  micky is right.

I may check in from time to time, but i’ll spend more time in the field and with the fam this summe.

I just checked back in after a bit of a hiatus just to see how things were coming along. Long story short, they don’t seem to be coming along much at all! The main Mathews site takes forever to load, as does the forum and the topics within the forum. The old sites may not have been integrated, but they loaded in the blink of an eye. Not to mention that the new format seems to have “locked out” a number of old participants who really contributed a lot to this place.

I’m about to voice an opinion that may seem heretical and may get me a strike (or two), but I just have to say it. As much as I understand that Mathews wants their company website integrated with the forum website, doggone it, when you do this the thing has to work! And it has to work right from the get go! Or at least soon after the changeover.  I’m sorry, waiting half a minute for a thread to load just doesn’t get it in these times.

Which leads me to my next point. I understand that Matt is a devout Christian. Whether he could be described as “born again” or “evangelical” or whatever I don’t know. My curiosity leads me to the designers of this website, Sleeping Giant Studios, or, as I like to term them, Unconscious Megamorph Dungeons! I’m wondering if the management of Unconscious Megamorph presented themselves to Matt, and the Board of Directors, if there is one, as a “Christian” outfit, and basically sold Mathews a bill of goods that they were not equipped to deliver!  And that they were hired on the basis of their being a “Christian” company.

I’ve been alive on this planet for 60 years, and during that time I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of “born again” and “evangelical” Christians. Most of them have been fine, upstanding people. However, some of them have been the most rapacious, grasping, greedy, back stabbing, double dealing, and dishonest people I have ever come across! If they were able to screw somebody over, then it must be God’s will! Whatever they did was fine because they were “God’s people!”

I’m hoping this isn’t the case. I’m also hoping that progress will continue, and that some of the roadblocks put in the way of some former member will be removed. I’d also hope that some mechanism would be put in place to notify those former members that things have been ironed out. I’ll never leave forever, but I sure don’t check in as often as I used to.

It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.

I think the slowness has to do with tying the forum to the Mathews home page. For me, the Mathews home page has ALWAYS been slow. I’m not sure why this is, but I get the feeling that Mathews web designers are always trying to use the “latest and greatest” technology…when most of the customer base does not. The result is a slow web page for most users. That is just a suspicion of mine, and may be totally wrong.

I do think there are some major disadvantages to this new forum style. The slowness/access problems are huge, as has been pointed out.

The waste of space is extremely annoying. Do I really need to see some guy walking around in a cornfield holding his bow all the time…at the expense of all the text being squashed up into a small strip inside the screen?

Something that hasn’t really been pointed out is the huge lose of information when transferring to the new system. All the helpful stickies lost their photos. Many, many archived posts where lost. That was a wealth of info for bow tuning, etc, especially for older bows that has been lost. And the search function for what posts remain in the archive…Have you tried to use it? Not the most user friendly.

And I think a big thing is time. For me, I just don’t have time to spend on forums very much. There are too many other things in life to enjoy.

Just checking in here.  Sometimes the new forum loads and sometimes it doesn’t.  Been mainly fishing on the weekends plus the lil guy is a 1,000mph.  Other than that stuff the only new thing is my retirement was approved a couple of months ago.  84 days of work left!

    1) Nope, the slow speed doesn’t work in these days.  Heaven forbid we have to waste half a minute waiting on anything. Get a new computer, the commadore64 is going to be a bit slow.

    2) Proclaiming to be a Christian dont mean much, proofs in the puddin as they say, its scriptural that one who has truly confessed faith with the heart and not just the mouth will bear fruit.  Stumbling and falling still happens, but rapacious, grasping, greedy, backstabbing, double dealing, dishonest, and screwing folks over doesn’t seem to fit the bill of bearing fruit to me….but I’m not the judge, and God knows his people. I’m sorry you have possibly met some false proclaimers, but that is scriptural also.  While judges we are not,  one of the fruits of the spirit is discernment.

    3) As for Matt, never met the guy, just have heard that he proclaims to be a Christian, thats cool, I proclaim to be one also.  As for a lot of the folks who have left, I hate it too, some fun and intelligent folks.  Maybe with time some changes will be made and some will upgrade their puters and all will work out.

In the meantime, I’ll hang around.  Still some good folk on here, just a kinda slow time of year anyhow.  Folks sick of being indoors all winter in front of their slow puters, and are spending time outside.  Not as many turkey hunters as deer.  I’ve been around the block a few times here, and this is always the slowest time of year, but this year with the implementation of the new forum, we just have something to blame it on I guess.  This thread sure isn’t slow….5 pages now of “why so slow”…..thats funny!

Hey Q2, you make some good points and some not so good.

Our computers don’t have much to do with the speed of the site.  I’m on a bunch of forums and only one is as slow as here.  The rest are fast like the old forum was.  If it was only our C64’s, wouldn’t everything on the WWW be slow?

As for the title of the thred, I answered this and it was 1 day, 5 hours old and 5th down on the page.  Pretty sad…

    The end is near....

1- I have new equipment and speed isn’t an issue. Not sure what the speed issues are about as I’ve not had problems.

2- As for the ‘side’ picts, I pretty much ignore it.

3- My cataract must dim the screen enough that the ‘white’ doesn’t bother me {#emotions_dlg.mathews_laughing}. On my screen, alternate posts are a little grayed out.

4- My main peeve is that formatting can be a mess. Especially if you edit.

5- I suppose I’d be happier if things would pick up with more posts. Sometimes it’s disappointing to see that little has changed.

6- I do appreciate those that are still posting as I do depend on this site for suggestions and help. Thanks to every one for their contributions.

You probably know more about puters than I…….I have great equipment at work, and I have zero speed issues, at home, not exactly a C64, but it is an older computer, probably 2003 or 2004, and dude I dont even attempt to get on here from there.  I just figured that had something to do with it.  Could possibly be my service at my house, its satelite internet from Hughs, but there are no issues with my kids laptops either.  I’ve gotten on here a couple times from there.  Like I said, I am puter literate…..but far from puter genius.  More like the guy who can read, but doesn’t know a noun from a verb…….LOL!

How do you like that Hughs satellite internet service?  I’m gonna be moving to the country one of these days and will probably have to go that route.  Any problems with it?  Fast or slow?  Price?

I’ll give you my impression. It’s what you use when you don’t have any other choice. When I take teams down south to the orphanage we work out, our connection is via Hughes. It’s miserable compared to any other type of ‘broadband’. Between the bandwidth caps, monthly usage limits and delays when transmitting VOIP, sometimes I think we’d be better off setting up morse code.

But, when you’re out in the ‘bush’ and there isn’t anything else available, you pay crazy high prices for otherwise pitiful service.

I should probably clarify. I don’t really have an issue with Hughesnet, per se. They’ve actually been fine to deal with when needed. It’s just that compared to a cable modem or fiber, it’s so dreadfully slow and problematic. Maintaining a blog and uploading pics/video is excruciating.

I’m still here, but have been pretty busy lately. A attribute some of the speed issues to my older smart phone. I was the best man in my best friends wedding a couple weeks ago. We also started planting corn last Monday. We planted 430 acres from Monday to noon Thursday when rain put a damper on things. We are spraying some of the corn fields today. This is all on top of working 7 days a week on second shift at the factory. Needless to say it has been hectic lately, but I love this time of year and the warm weather. :) I will continue checking in. Take care everyone!
