    Man this used to be a special place and now it is dead, what happened?

    Well… it can be a long story, but to put it into the nickel format I think it went something like this.

    • A bunch of the “Oldster” on here were getting a little pokey-scratchy about how “the forum has changed…”  (It happens…)
    • The new format came along and everyone hated it… and they changed it back for a bit.
    • There was a small group of us that got a chance to beta test the format to give suggestions
    • The new format came out, but the changes we asked for were slow to follow.  Some changes were made, but it seemed to take a while.
    • The new format has not been as easy for some of the members to use and that was the final straw for many of them…
    • There still is a core group that is here and helpful, but it lacks the critical mass to drive the forum at the same pace it used to tick along at.
    • The format we have is livable, but still not as user friendly on the forum member side…

    That, in my humble opinion, is why this place is slower than it once was.

    A statewide forum that I visit has a very large number of folks that utilize that forum from their phones.  And since I joined the forum here there has been a mass proliferation of people with smart phones who no longer spend as much time on a std. computer.  I see everyone with a iPhone doing everything they care to do using their phone.

    I do not have a smartphone and only access the forum from home on a desktop.  If Tapatalk (whatever that is) still is cumbersome then that could be one of the major reasons traffic has slowed way down, because much of the access to this site could be through a handheld phone.  That is just the way things have gone.

    IMO the format includes way too much white space (less contrast).  Can’t imagine scrolling all around to find something here on the little bitty screen of an iPhone
    if you see the same thing on a phone that you see from a computer.  If such was the case I would never use a phone to visit this site.

    Tapatalk basically takes any forum and puts it into a user friendly format for reading the forum.
    It basically looks the same no matter which forum you are on… the problem with this one is that a lot of the functions in Tapatalk don’t work with this forum… and no one is bothering to fix them, comment on them, or even acknowledge that there is a problem…. really ticks some folks off.

    The forum is definitely not as attractive as it used to be before the changes. As others have commented, much of that may be due to the technology of the forum not being as accessible to members as it once was. For me, that is not the issue. The forum just looks too “official” and commercial and, hence in my humble opinion, detracts from members wanting to post and share the day-to-day banter and humour that made it so enjoyable for many. Prior to the changes, a newly posted topic would be on page 2 within a day. Now, the same topic remains on page 1 for weeks, if not months. It’s a little like wandering across the desert. You just hope you run into somebody, anybody, at some point. C’est la vie.

    So many great responses here, and all of them true. If the goal was to make something even more attractive, then someone needs to step back and realize that they’ve done just the opposite. Assuming that a quality, integrated website is something that is done for marketing reasons, when virtually all of the users agree that the design is not working, then it needs to be learned that the marketing plan failed.

    In many ways I see this as a miniature scale of what’s happening with the obamacare website. It’s obviously a failure. It was implemented by folks who really are not at the top of their game and it was put out in the public eye before it was ready, but they keep defending it anyway assuming that eventually everyone is going to love it. {#emotions_dlg.mathews_brick_wall}

    At some point, I’ve got to think that Mathews either decides that at the current user volume it’s not worth continuing, or that they need to make another radical change to the site. With the convoluted interface, the difficulty the mods have in editing threads/posts, and the major influx of spam (Just this weekend the ‘warning’ thread was pummeled with several pages of spam again), I just don’t see this thing going on indefinitely. {#emotions_dlg.typotux}

    I’ll be the first to agree that I like the old forum better. But I would never leave just because the newer platform isn’t as user friendly. I’m still appreciative that my favorite archery company provides this for all if us.

    Do I miss the old regime? Of course I do and would love to see them back. But it is what it is and there are still many quality people here.

    Vince, I appreciate the loyalty, and I defended this new look hard for a year or better. Fact is, the forum, while hopefully a community of folks with a common goal, is a product. As a product it reflects on the company. What we’ve seen with this is that the company seems unwilling to listen and respond to the customer (i.e.- the user community), and as such it reflects on the company as a whole. At one time I considered this to be the very best community I encountered on the internet. Now I don’t even think it registers on the radar. The designers and implementers don’t need acquiescence at this point; they simply need to know that the current design leaves a lot to be desired and it has resulted in MANY people leaving the forum.

    Were this product a bow instead of forum, NO ONE would think that we need to say ‘support it no matter how crappy the shooting experience’. And while I wholeheartedly agree that we need to appreciate Mathews providing the space and experience, in all honesty, there is a ‘payment’ that we make in the sense that we see Mathews advertising every time we log in. This IS a product, and the sad reality is that the product stinks! Thus, many are no longer here. Because I also think that loyalty is an important–albeit a dying principle–I want to stick around, too, to hopefully help move things back to what they were if the management will listen. {#emotions_dlg.mathews_thumbs_up}

    I miss the old forum functionality and the personalities that left with the change.  It is most def a very different place, but I still check in to see what’s up.
