I bought mine in Sept 04 a week before I left for a NM Elk hunt. Brought me good luck then and still does.
After 41 deer , 7 elk, 13 turkey, countless hogs and a few exotics, I have the itch to replace it. Realy like the Chill but waiting to see what’s new this year.
Thinking about scaling back from 70 to 60 to ease up on the old shoulder some.
Yup, I still do! Had a Helim for a year and sold it in favor of my trusty Outback. I sent it off to get dipped in Lost Camo as the Realtree Hardwoods was looking pretty wore, put new accessories on it, and now it is back to this years hunting bow. I just seem to like the draw cycle better of the older Mathews!!
Who still shoots an Outback? Ummm, that would be me! It was the second Mathews I ever owned, my first being a Z-Max. I shot the Z-Max quite well as long as it was warm out. Even in 2004 the shoulders were starting to go a little bit and the cam, with the subsequent “hump” in the draw cycle, on the Z-Max was starting to get me busted on stand. I sprung for the Outback and it was love at first shoot! It felt like the bow was made specifically for me! I had 60-70lb limbs on the Z-Max but throttled back to 50-60lb limbs for the Outback. I’ve always shot it maxed out, it pulls 62-63lbs depending on who’s shop scale you use, but the draw cycle is so smooth! I sometimes wondered if I should have gone with the 60-70lb limbs, but my shoulders aren’t getting any younger! I can still pull it maxed out, today, with no problem! I think it’s one of the best Mathews has ever made!
It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.
I bought mine back in 2004. Bought a Switchback, but actually liked the Outback more. Sold the Switchy a few years ago but kept the Outback. Bought a Heli-m last Spring and passed the Outback to my son. Still in the family Great bow!
Ive still got my 2004 outback but I still also have my 2007 drenalin… My wife is FORCING me to sell one of them and Im still torn as to which one.. I LOVE my outback.. we have a very solid history.. amazing bow.
