Did anyone notice that most people east of the Mississippi generally went with whitetail ? And west went with elk. Northern hunters generally went with moose.
Generally we all want a pope and young with the animal we are most likely to be able to hunt.
I could throw out the Caribou. Not that I wouldn’t shoot one, it just wouldn’t top my list. I could add Black Bear, Mountain Goat, Desert Big Horn, Rocky Mountain Bighorn, Pronghorn Antelope…
And I’d still have to say: Any one of the above.[/quote:24b2rsz5]
Of course…but the poll asked for which deer species.
I’m on the same page as ElkAssn…
For “deer” species, well I’d pick Elk first But I’d let an arrow fly at any “quality” sized and/or any “legal” animal mentioned and not mentioned (Black Bear, Mountain Goat, Bighorn Sheep, Antelope, Cougar, and hopefully soon even a Wolf)… I’m not necessarily out for P&Y, but the excitement of the hunt and to get up close & personal with the wildlife… Meat is Meat, the Horns/Trophy animal is just a Bonus!
Based upon ungulates, I’d have to be hard pressed to make a decision. Elk (either variety), Moose, Whitetail, Mulie. All are such wonderous animals. I like the moose because it’s such an enormous creature.
