That is some great video. I would like to see one of a bow without the STS along with that one so I could compare them. I don’t have one on my bow and I don’t really know how effective it is.

i watched this video last month and it was very interesting seeing the string go to the sides of the rubber bumper. i just watched it again and the video buffered alot letting me see that the string hit on the right of the bumper and not in the center llike they say to set them up, this would cause the bumper to torque to the right and then bobble back and forth to allow the string to pass by the side. I have the old style with the limbsaver on it which is wider than the newer style. i haven’t videod the string but i doubt it goes to the side. was the string initially set up in the center of the bumper or were you testing to see what would happen if someone set it up a little bit off??

Although the arrow only leaves the string 1/4″ sooner than without the STS, we have noticed that the STS does reduce forward string travel after the arrow has left the string.
You may find the string movement after the initial impact with the STS interesting.

Well, the string in fact hits the center of the STS. I don’t see how you could conclude otherwise from this video. Even the vertical line that becomes visible on the STS after it sways back and forth shows a center impact.

Thanks Jon for the quick response….

when i pressed play it took almost 4 minutes to play the whole shot, it would do a few frames then buffer then do a few frames then buffer, it looked to me like it hit on the right of the bumper(that is why I asked).

Have you tried the older style with the limbsaver end and if so did you get the same results??

it is obvious there is room for improvement to achieve a better result..

I did the same test that LEE did with the foot powder and I received the same results with only a small line down the center. 28 3/4″ D/L @ 59#. With 10 shots just line, after 50+ shots still just a line just a little wider. [=}=]

Before you purchase an STS, I would recommend testing it on your bow to see how it affects a bow that has been paper tuned. Of course, that’s if tuning your bow is important to you.

I purchased and used the STS on my Switchback last year and was pleased with the effect on noise reduction. I did not shoot through paper after installing it, though. It was paper tuned and shooting well before I installed it and the fella at the local shop insisted that it wouldn’t affect things. This year, I have upgraded to the XT and tried it on the bow after it had been paper tuned. It made a noticeable difference in noise reduction as expected, but it also made a difference in tuning. Basically, it wouldn’t tune with the STS installed. My decision was made when a different bow guru asked if I wanted a slightly louder bow that shoots great or a bow that’s quiet but won’t tune.

I think someone either doesn’t know what they’re doing or has a personal bias against the STS.

Makes me wonder when 10 years ago or so when we were shooting 3-4″ or more overdraws to pick up speed on 3-D bows. The rest would be 1-2″ away from the string and I don’t remember anyone having string wear issues where it hit the back of the overdraw/rest…or maybe I’ve just forgot.

In fact I had to use an overdraw when I first got my Q2 because at that time they didn’t have a raised quiver (or at least my dealer didn’t have one/wouldn’t order one) so I saw lots of people who shot overdraws on em so the arrow wouldn’t hang down past the cam.
