2013 – 2014 will be my 2nd year of bow hunting I am actually pretty good but can always use improvment. Last year I setup 5 Redneck deer feeders constructed of 6″ PVC pipe with 90 degree elbows and caps each one capable of holding approx 40lbs of corn. Bow Season should be starting up about Sept 7, 2013. Last year I started my project in mid July and kept them pretty full all of the time. Towards the end of the season last week of Dec they were all depleted but had 6 processed deer in my freezer (Burger, Country Hot Sausage, Cube Steaks, and Tenderloin Roll) My question is should I start earlier with the corn or is mid July about right. BTW I ended up buying 600 lbs of corn. I hunt on a old family friend land but there are other hunters that hut there also and they take advantage of of my corn supply, I’m not complaining cause I killed 4 deer from one of the other hunters stand.
It depends on what you are wanting to do. If you just want to kill deer over them you are fine with july, but if you are wanting to help keep the deer healthy, and on the property I would feed them into April.
