Besides sitting in a blind for hours waiting for a turkey to come, what other techniques can you use to hunt down a turkey and shoot with a bow at maximum of 65-70 yards. ;;)

Sometimes i show up right after they leave the spot where our blind is at, and they are everywhere else but there. its kind of a valley like place down in the badlands with hill areas and blotches of trees and bushes here and there.

First… I’ve set my limit on turkey for distance is within 30 yards… at my typical set up… 22 yards is about the longest shot that I have. The other piece of advice I’d give you is to pattern the birds so you can be in the blind before the birds get there.

Running and gunning is a shotgun game… very hard with a bow.

Only bagged one turkey so far, and it was with a shotgun last spring.

Where I hunt (an Army Base) you can’t roost the birds or even control what patch of woods you hunt each day. Have to do a “draw”, but you can put your top 10 areas in preferred order & pray to get a good one. So gun is my preferred weapon in those conditions – but have practiced with bow from a ground blind, just in case I don’t draw one of my top picks & end up drawing a “bow only” area.

Also, only a total bag limit of 7 birds last year on the section I hunt – so you don’t want to lower your odds of being one of the lucky few. Last year my buddy and I both got birds there with shotgun – mine was a gun only shot opportunity, but his could have been taken with a bow also.

Someday the bow turkey will happen. If it happens at the Army base it will be quite an accomplishment for me. So far only 3 bow turkeys ever taken there!

Good luck to all with their weapon of choice! :thumbup :D
