Joined: 1/23/2005mostly a meat hunter. I would like to go for a trophy but I don’t have access to good grounds for this.
I voted meat hunter, but I’m not sure that’s really the case.I think I’m just a “HUNTER“!!I’d still be hunting if I could only shoot a trophy,I’d hunt if I could only kill Does,I’d probably go sit in the tree even if I knew I had a slim to none chance of even seeing a deer.So I really can’t say I’m a Trophy Hunter or a Meat Hunter………….I’m just a HUNTER[/color:2a10sr9y]. IM WITH VARMINT ON THIS ONE I VOTED MEAT HUNTER BUT I THINK THE SAME WAY IM JUST A HUNTER UNLESS ITS TO SMALL IF ITS BROWN ITS DOWN AND HEY IF IT HAS A TROPHY CLASS RACK ALL THE BETTER I JUST TRY TO ENJOY THE MOMENTim from the midwest and a lot of my meat turns out to be a trophy, my first goal every year is to fill the freezer after that i will try to tag a big buck
Sorry, it’s not what you want to hear, but I am very selective in the bucks I shoot, and let many pass every year, but I also am very insistent on taking at least two doe per year for meat.
I guess if I HAD to choose one or the other…
Well, I guess I don’t, so never mind. Still BOTH.PLEASE dont make me choose! (Ha! Ha!) Like most, I love to shoot does for meat and it’s exciting and necessary anyway.
But as for bucks, shot lots of smaller bucks in the past and will only shoot a buck I am willing to mount now.
IMPOSSIBLE choice, but fun nonetheless.both…. does come by it’s getting the shaft, (meat), if it is not a older mature buck, he walks.I will hold out for a nice buck until the final 3 days of the season. You can only shoot one deer in Oregon without extra draws. However, if a large mature doe comes by, I would take her early in the season because of the amount of meat. Of course, those mature does tend to be just as cagey (if not more) as the mature bucks. In a sense, they’re a trophy in themselves.
Location: Guess!I’d say meat…..BUT if old big horns walks in WHACK.

However, It can be a pretty empty freezer just looking for king kong and turning everything else down all the time. Don’t mean that I am looking to kill Bambi but I don’t believe it alway’s has to be the biggest in the woods either. Everyones definition of a trophy is different.

Hey, big bucks have more meat….. right?
In MD you can take so many deer, that you can have both. I took my best buck with a bow on opening day a few years back, and on others haven’t seen a decent buck in bow range all season, but got some does. Both were great years.
I’m from Maryland……. so East Coast.
Joined: 7/7/2006I pass up most bucks, cause it would end my season!
I leave the smaller ones to grow and/or for the neighbors.
We do eat the ones that I do shoot. The boys love venison sticks and jerky.

I agree 100% with Varmint
Joined: 9/13/2005Born and raised in Pa. I’d love to hang a nice set of antlers on the wall, but won’t pass up on a fat doe for the meat. I’d rather have the meat in the freezer come January instead of wishing I had taken the shot!
