On the first day, for me there is no reason to shoot anything smaller, just a waste of my buck tag.

Nothing in the morning cause I’m gonna take and video a friend :D If she shoots something it will be her first critter with the bow. In the evening I’m gonna try to hold out for a nice buck [=}=]

I hunt for meat and in most places I hunt if you don’t take the first available shot you don’t get any meat that year. If I could afford to be picky I would, but because I can’t I ain’t :D :thumbup :thumbup

The first legal buck that I have in range since it will be my first with a bow. Twenty years of on again off again bow hunting and this is the first year that I am completely dedicated and not just taking the bow for a walk in the woods. A new XT will do that to you I guess.

When I hunted, my rule was at home “meat first” (meaning dry doe or 2 year old spike) horns later…

On a “Big” hunt like Ill. or Milk River 150″ is/was my minimum for whitetails

    I’ll take a doe if I see one first. If I see a buck, it’s 120 or better. [=}=]

In the area I’ll be hunting you MUST take a doe before you can shoot a buck, they’re trying to drasticly reduce the herd. OTOH, there have been years I haven’t even seen a deer. So, under those circumstances, if it is legal and doesn’t have spots, its going down. Also, antlers just don’t taste very good so rack size is irrelevant.

Depends on where I hunt…. In one spot, the farmer hunts so I can’t take anything w/ horns, (he said I could shoot a BIG one if it walked by, but I will let any buck walk on that place, I feel like they are his and wouldn’t want to risk losing my hunting spot) and I’ll only shoot mature does anyway off that farm.
If I am on public land, which will probably be the case on opening day, first doe broadside, or decent buck will get shot at (I’ll make that decision when I see him :D ).

Same here, cause a 100″ deer in Florida is pretty rare.
