Bummer you couldn’t connect Just have to shoot a bigger one now
Went out last saturday for the first sit of the year. Was expecting to get rained on but somehow managed to stay dry. It was waaaaay too warm for any kind of success. Saw one small 4pt that checked out my mock scrape and then posed for a couple pictures in front of my trail cam. Weather is cooling off a bit, so hopefully this weekend is betterNeat hunt this past Saturday morning. I had a small bobcat hope up on a rotting log 40 yds in front of me. It was cool to watch for a minute or so.
No deer showed.
We are supposed to much cooler weather this Thursday thru Sunday. Maybe we will get some action AND I WILL NOT MISS!
Great hunt yesterday morning. I had three bucks walk in under me. I decided to take the 8 pt. He was at 17 yds.
Some how, I totally missed him. Shot right below him??? At home last night, I shot at multiple distances, field points and broadhead. Shot perfectly.
Maybe I got buck fever!
Let me see, Plink, a bow, a deer, safest place to be is in front of him cause he can’t shoot straight in front of him (love ya bro). Ya haven’t been saying anything, guess you just don’t have it in ya for a little smack talkin.
You know how it is Viper, I cut my fingers on the broadhead trying to nock the arrow… and it was all down hill from there. As for smack talk, my “smack talker” broke when I fell asleep playing with dolls in my playhouse and it fell to the ground. Maybe it will get fixed soon."The party in Hades has been canceled due to fire.Hey gang, enjoyed catching up on the team reading! Glad you had the opportunity at least Plink! You’ll get him yet!
I’ve only been able to get out once thus far this season….but that’s about to change. More on that in a moment.
The one time I did get out was with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. With about 5 minutes of legal shooting light left, I sensed something moving below me in the creek bed on which I was set up on the south bank. My eyes caught the movement of fur as I clipped on my release. I realized that whatever was moving through the brush was going to come out not 10 yards but about 10 feet in front of me! Just as I prepared to draw, out stepped the biggest…raccoon I’d ever seen in my life! Sucker had to be about 4 feet long from nose to tail!
The best part was when he saw me: rather than running away, he just started walking backwards, back-tracking the way he came out. I laughed out loud at the “oh, excuse me, I’ll just leave” look on his face as he slinked away. No deer but a pretty enjoyable experience in God’s creation nonetheless.
Before I get to the good news I alluded to above, I have to talk about my favorite spot.
As many of you know, Nebraska is one of the states hit by last year’s devastating outbreak of EHD. It was about this time last year when the reports (and numbers) of deer found dead in or around water started coming in. This year, we’ve gotten more of a picture of just how bad it was. I’ve seen and heard estimates that indicate the state lost as much as 40 or 50 percent of our deer herd. And that is the state as a whole. There are pockets where I’m sure the numbers are substantially higher than that. That brings me to my favorite little honey hole -that isn’t any more.
One of the other attorneys in my office lives on an acreage in the middle of a farm about 25 minutes from my house. His in-laws farm the crop land. Down below his house, about a 10 minute walk, is a little stand of trees where two very small creeks meet to form a slightly larger one. That little triangle-shaped grove of no more than 5 acres used to regularly produce deer for me. Only one trophy sized buck but several nice does and one little basket buck. (I wouldn’t shoot him again now but he was my first archery deer about 10 years ago and I was really of the “if it’s brown, it’s down” mentality then!)
Due to increase hunting pressure in the area, the numbers had started to dwindle over the last 2 or 3 years or so, even before last year’s EHD disaster. This year though, my friend has said that he hasn’t seen ONE deer on the place all summer and fall. That blows me away. It used to be the rare exception that I would go there and not see a deer. I haven’t been there yet this year, mainly because the wind hasn’t been right for the place, but it sounds like the deer are simply not there anymore.
BUT…. just today, I found out that a buddy who is just getting into bow hunting, has secured some permission to hunt some private land in south-central Nebraska. The bad news is that it’s about 3 hours away. The good news, in addition that we have permission, is that it is in a part of the state not hit nearly as hard with EHD. This weekend is opening weekend of pheasant season but after that we’ll be heading west to check it out! To say I’m excited is an understatement!
Sorry for rambling on but I thought you guys deserved an update. My thoughts and prayers are with y’all this season!

Connected with the new Creed!! Shot her Friday night at 20 yards. Rage to the heart put her down in a hurry!
Looks like she was leaking something! Congrats and happy eating!Nice job CS! Looks great!
Update: I saw the potential new land Saturday. Might be a good place for rifle but not for bow hunting. Wide open and well grazed pasture land with a very cranky and obnoxious neighbor. Story is too long and frustrating to share; suffice it to say it didn’t pan out.
Back to the drawing board. Sorry team.I shot a doe this morning and I emailed the pics in to Vince so we should have 5 more points on the way!Looks like I struck again! Got an 11 point this weekend! He scored 135″. My best bow kill yet. I am emailing the pics to Vince. Where is everybody at? Come on guys!Congrats. Nice buck. My season has been a bust so far. In the limited time I have been able to get out, both bow and rifle, I have come up empty handed. I did have several opportunities at small yearling bucks, but passed them all. Let’s put some more deer on the ground and points on the board!
Location: New YorkHey Plink,
Have not heard from you in a long time. Nice deer but who shot it for you? Just kidding bro, congrats on the buck.
Merry Christmas Everyone,
It’s been awhile since I’ve logged on and upon doing so today I see we’ve had some team members who’ve had some success! Congrats to all! Unfortunately, I’m not able to say I’m one of them! But, to be honest, it’s not been because of a lack of trying. I’m just simply not seeing deer this year at my spots. I have plans to upgrade my hunting opportunities next year but that won’t do us any good this year. My apologies team.
I AM going out a couple of more times this weekend before our season ends the 31st.
Have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!
