    :p

We got 3 inches of much needed rain over the weekend, so I only got out a couple times. Saw a few does and scrapes are starting to appear. No new bucks on camera quite yet, but they will be showing up soon!

The date is wrong in this pic, but the time is correct. It was taken friday, 10-12. Both bucks are local deer, and my treestand is 30 yards behind the camera.

Heading out in the morning. Seen a decent 4X4 just at dark tonight so going to try and set up for him in the morning. We’ve had a lot of EHD around so deer are getting a little scarce. Talked to a conservation officer tonight and he said he picked up 82 deer around town this past couple weeks.

Got out this morning for the first time. Saw four bucks and several doe. All bucks were shooters, two of them were real nice but just couldn’t get them any closer than 70+ yards.

Then I thought I jumped a doe, but quickly realized that it wasn’t me. A mountain lion was about 3 seconds behind it and closing. The lion was about 80 yards from me. I suddenly wasn’t sure who was the hunter and who was the prey. A little unnerving having one of those things that close.

WOW,i cant imagine.i know what a common house cat can do to your hand, but a mountain lion.Years ago i was hunting on the tundra for caribou, and we came across polar bear tracks, very fresh tracks.for the next 7 days i was forever looking over my shoulder.my neck was so sore when i got back,it took the chiropracter 3 trips to get it back to normal.

Got out all day today. We have about 2 inches of snow on the ground and 23 degrees. Bucks are going crazy. Had a nice 8 point at about 35 to 40 yards but never gave me a shot. Had a doe and spike at about 10 feet. I was standing on the ground with the closest tree about 15 feet away. Not sure whose eyes were bigger. On the way out right at dark, I seen one of the biggest bucks I have seen in the Black Hills chasing away two smaller (shooter) bucks from a couple does. I am going out early in the morning to see if I can ambush him going back into the trees. :thumbup

Got out all day yesterday again. Saw the big guy at about 300 yards coming my way but something spooked him and he disappeared. Put a stalk on a nice 8 point and two does and was about 35 yards from him. He was laying down and facing away from me. To my advantage the wind was blowing a little and the temp got above freezing so the snow was falling off the trees and making a lot of noise. Just as I was getting setup to wait for him to stand, some idiot came walking down the path. He looked at me and I tried to motion him out of the way but he just kept walking and spooked all of them before I could get a shot. ](*,) I will try again on Monday.
