I’m just trying to be patient this year. the crops are coming off nice and i have two weeks off in early Nov. I’m itching like crazy. I might Hunt a couple stands this weekend…. But i plan on staying out of my prize areas until the woods are crazy. On the other hand i was driving at work and saw two bucks (6 & 8points) Chasing a doe at 11am…. its getting to be that timeRough weekend, fighting off a cold/sinus/chest infection all weekend. Sucks when you cant stop coughing and sneezing in the tree. Seen a lot of deer this weekend, several bucks, just no shooters. Sign is busting out everywhere and the young bucks are traveling with that wild look. We typically have an earlier rut here in comparison to most areas, I’m expecting things to heat up this coming weekend and the following week with the older bucks. Lets just hope we get the weather to go along with it
Joined: 6/22/2011I hear you on the rough weekend. I’m fighting a bug to. I did how ever rattle in a 4 & 9 point on Monday night. First time I have ever pulled it off. 15 yards broadside. Just wasnt what i was looking for, so I let him walkIll be out tonight. what about you guys?Spent a couple mornings in the stand last week and then hunted Friday and Saturday. Seen my first decent buck of the year Thursday morning right at first light. Had him at 12 yards, but just decide. I didn’t shoot, he wasn’t a “wow” buck, but was certainly a decent buck. Just not light enough to really tell a whole lot of detail about him, but he just didn’t have the frame of any of the bucks I have on the hit list. Of course the time is approaching where a buck from anywhere could show up. I had some really good sits, and one or two disappointing ones also, but thats hunting. The best was Friday evening over a secluded food plot with 2 apple trees on the edge of it. I’m not really sure how many deer I seen, no doubt 13 different deer, but there were so many running around in and out of the plot, I’m just not sure. Only seen two 1.5 year old bucks, but pretty sure had a mature buck running does in the woods right at dark. The little bucks ran around grunting and chasing the does in and out of the plot all evening, then at dark, a buck started running in the woods with deep grunt. Was a fun evening for sure. On Friday morning, my hunting buddy ran into one of our 3 year olds chasing a doe, and he took advantage of the situation making a great shot and putting this nice guy on the ground. Not a big one to a lot of folks, but relative to the area we hunt, he’s a solid buck. 118″ 3.5 year old 10pt. We usually circle October 20th on our calendar as when things usually start getting interesting, right on cue this year, as Friday was the 19th.
Sorry for the poor quality pic, from the cell phone. Have good ones on digital camera but dont have them downloaded yet.
Finally got the right doe in the right place at the right time and took her Friday evening. After many opportunities, of which I passed for one reason or another, this ol’ gal came in to one of my stands where she’d be easy to get out, was headed in the right direction (toward the truck…LOL!), and presented a perfect 1/4 away shot at 16 yards. First time my bows been off the hanger all year. It was a little warm, as you can see I’m in shorts after dark, after taking my hunting duds off.
Saturday evening/Sunday morning was a different story on the weather. This cold front began to blow in Saturday and cooled things off. My wife shot this big doe just before dark Saturday evening, and wasn’t sure of the shot. She didn’t see her arrow hit. We picked up the trail, blood looked good, but we jumped a deer 40 yards into the track and decided to back out. Just wasn’t sure. Went back Sunday morning, she was laying 20 yards from where we stopped. She was toast, not her that we heard run off, was a nice double lung shot at 31 yards. From shorts to coveralls in 36 hours…..LOL! She’s really enjoyed her new Bow Tech Assassin this year, this is her 3rd doe. She’s a killing machine!
Congrats!Congrats to you and your better half on the great weekend of hunting. Thats 5 more points for us also found out that I have to work on Friday trying to get out of it if I can. Need to get into to the woods because our blackpowder season starts on Saturday but just like last year I’ll be out there with bow in hand trying to get a buck before they start running dogs.Team looks like I’m screwed I have to work Fri and Sat. Was told I won’t get any time off till probley around Nov the 19th. this sucks I only had 2 days off the whole month of Oct. and looks like I’ll only have 5 days off the month of Nov. if I get those. But if I get the chance I’ll be out there when I can Sorry to let you guys down.VAZ7HUNTER your not letting us down. you got the first 5 points for us
