    Nice job Dennis.

I have not had the deer season that I thought I was going to have so far. My son was born over 3 months premature on October 5th unexpectedly, I spent every free second I had at the hospital with him. Long story short, he was getting better and better every day but unfortunately God had a different plan for Max and he had some complications which he did not make it through. I never once thought that I would be a father on October 5th, and even more so I never once thought that I would be planning my first child’s funeral 10 days later. I’m not telling you guys about this to get any sympathy, however prayers for me and my wife are welcomed, but I am telling you this because I am in the process of getting my life back on track and beginning to get back into the normal swing of things. And in order to get back into the swing of things I needed some time to myself in a tree. I was able to get back out this weekend and ended up getting a doe on Sunday morning, so that is 5 more points for us, now it’s time to sit and wait for the big boy and hope that Max is looking out for his dad down here. Thanks guys,

give you guys an update on my season so far now that I’m back out hitting the woods. I hunted a new spot in Ohio for the first time last Saturday evening. It’s actually my buddies spot, but I helped him scout it and hang his stands this summer, and there was a spot I told him to hang a stand but he was content where he hung his, so I hung one there for him. Anyway, long story short we went there Saturday evening and I asked him if I could sit in the stand that I hung in this grown up CRP with brush and trees gowing all in it, and an old barn with weeds and brush grown up all around it, and there were 4 wheeler trails weaving around this CRP, beautiful looking spot. Well about 40 minutes before dark a doe comes out across the CRP with a monster 8 pointer right on her heals. She ended up circling and coming straight to me, he was tearing trees up and the ground going crazy, the doe ends up 15 yards right in front of me and the buck circles the barn and came into 20 yards or so. I knew with both of them being so close I needed to take the first shot I got, but he was behind some brush and branches making a scrape. He finally moved into a spot where I thought I had a window to shoot through. Well unfortunately there were a couple more sticks that I didn’t see and when I took the shot my arrow deflected to the left and it was a clean miss. I self video taped the entire thing, everything was perfect except the shot. I had the camera on him, and I was using a lumenok on my arrow, so it’s clear as day that I missed him completely, you can even see the branch I hit dangling down after the shot. Heartbreaking, but I still have plenty of places to hunt and saw a real nice buck yesterday morning in Indiana, just too far away. I’ll keep after them. :thumbup

Guys I got out Sat to. Just put my stand up that morning in this new place that we can hunt. Went back out around 3:30 at 6:15 pm here they come walking right at me, a little one was leading and two big ones right behind it. we cut some small sappings out of the way so I can have a shot.. Go fig the little one starts to come into the cut then stops the big ones come right up with it and they all stopped behind the trees we didn’t cut so no shot. Fifteen mins later here comes 5 more but on the other side of me where we didn’t cut the limbs out of the way you guessed it that’s right where they come out again no shot. by then it was getting dark, got on 4 wheeler went over hill and ran into 7 more coming out of the trees.. Was fit to be tide.. There is one monster buck in there to.. I hope he sticks around for another try at him, biggest one I have seen in some time now.. Course we don’t have very big bucks here in Iowa.. :whistle

The bucks are starting to move in Illinois. I passed on a really nice three year old this morning, very tall tines! If he makes it another year he will become quite a deer. Hard to pass when there are so many others that won’t but hey, at least I gave him a chance. Had a 6 point this afternoon really confused with my decoy, they were about the same size, so it was a stand-off. I hsave been using carbon synergy this year and have yet to be winded, check them out on youtube. I also have been using a ghillie suit quite a bit and it is a real rush to be face to face with a deer. HAPPY RUT!!!

+5 :thumbup Photos on their way to Vince, I will post the story later suffice it to say that the doe should not have picked me off and then just stood there stomping wanting me to make a move, well I did, and she did not like the result.

Indiana buck down, self filmed the entire hunt, even though it was a pretty short hunt. Now time to get out to Ohio in search for a bigger one! :D
