pretty pumped for you Ike! Way to go man.
I am kinda excited about my prospects. Friday as i sat at work my dad texted that he was driving tractor to vineyard and a big 8 was running across the field at 10am…sat up there Friday night w/ the decoy and saw nothing.
Sat morning I was heading back in, rounded the field to go grab my camera cards and was sort of still hunting up the creek bottom on an old road that’s somewhat overgrown. About 25yrds ahead of my, a mirage of grey came out of nowhere and a nice buck silently strolled past before i could even register what was happening and disappeared. I grunted a couple times and he never showed.
As i got back in my dad said he watched it walk along hte lake from the house and right up into the woods past me. Ugh! So close, would’ve been a chipshot had i known he was coming.
HAve to babysit Saturday morning but wife should be home by 12:30. Will be jumping in truck and speeding the hour out to the farm for an all afternoon sit and Sunday morning sit. Buck seems to be all over right now during the day, hope he’ll stick with it one more week. I had the absolute wrong wind on Saturday morning, which is why i was done early and checking cams. Normally would have been in the stand he walked right under.Team 19: Silent AssassinsGood luck Luke hope it pans out for you. That’s crazy to have one so close on the ground and him not even notice you. Very cool I do believe play the wind is important but I also believe that sometime we put to much thought into it. I was completely downwind of the buck I got and he seemed to not even care or maybe it was the Deaddown wind who knows. But what do know is that night got him I went from sweating at work for 8 hour to quick spray no shower and he still came in.

Joined: 5/20/2009Well, season has not been one of my better ones. But, was able to get another doe today (with pic this time). 21yds quartering away hard. Heart shot, she tried to run out of field but fell over 8ft from my tree. Info is in to Vince. 2 does in the freezer along with several pigs. No more meat hunting, looking for bone now.Reezen 6.5 66/29 Creed 72/29
Joined: 5/20/2009Here’s the last doe and one of the pigs. Almost missed getting a pic of this deer as well. Not because I forgot, but because my friends were nice enough to get her hung and start to dress her out while I changed clothes. Not sure if I did good by getting back before rye got started good or if I should have waited and let them finish

I had the biggest buck encounter I’ve experienced with my bow on Friday night. Wanted one last hunt before guns started blazing saturday morning. Neighbor was arriving around 4pm and it was the first absolutely dead calm hunt I’ve had this year…been plagued by wind all year. Heard this buck come flying down the hillside behind neighbor’s pond and saw him pop up at 40yrds across the property line. He sat and stared at the truck pulling up and bolted as soon as they turned into their house. I was already standing and got to full draw immediately. He bounded past me at 20yrds, just couldnt get him to slow up for a shot unfortunately. great big buck, at least 10pts. I made myself concentrate on aiming and didnt really even take a solid look at his headgear, but he was very big.
Flash to Saturday, we had 25mph winds and upper 60s all day…never saw a deer, barely any shooting .Woke up Sunday and walked out at 5am, it was 62 degrees and gusting HUGE. We had 40mph winds and 79 degrees at my farm, I quit at 9am due to fear of my tree blowing over. Eventually turned into tornadoes which demolished some IL towns just across the river.
Worst opening weekend harvest of MO deer season in over 20 years. It was absolutely brutal conditions. Hoping this weekend fares better. Didnt seem to slow up Ike and his crew somehow though! They are stacking up the deer this year.Team 19: Silent Assassins
Joined: 2/25/2010Congrats Ike and mhpm!! I have been hunting every chance I get guys. The rut has been going hard here in NJ for the last week and a half. I have been living in the woods when I’m not in class and working. I saw a shooter 10pt the other night, but he was chasing a doe and never got close enough for a shot. I had a small 4pt at 15 yds last night, but I passed on him in hopes of the big 10 showing up. No such luck lol. Hopefully this weekend i can connect. On my way to school on monday i almost clipped a big rack about 2 min down the road from my tree-stand. I’ll keep you guys updated and let you know if I connect!!Man tough break Luke. Had a crazy rifle season nothing to shoot for me though. Ready for the second half of Mo archery though.
